If you are just coming across our blog for the first time,
you are in luck today. We are having our
first initial author interview. Welcome
Nina Soden!!
Heidi & Alison: What inspired
you to become an author, and how did you first get started writing into
fiction?
Nina: I love art of all kinds. I have been writing poetry since I was in high
school (maybe earlier), dancing when I was in grade school, acting since before
I could really talk, and drawing—sculpting—painting since I was a toddler. I can’t really think of an art form that I
don’t enjoy. When I left California, my
heart was broken. My dreams of becoming
an actress seemed to be slipping away until I found a local theatre company
that I have since become heavily involved in. However, that love for being in front of a
camera was still lacking. I tried to
think of the part I would love to play and then I started writing. Awaken (book 1 in the Blood Angel
Series) started out as a short film that quickly turned into a novel instead. I found that I enjoyed living through my
characters as I wrote just as much as I enjoyed portraying characters on screen
and on stage. With that discovery Alee
Moyer of the Blood Angel Series was born.
H & A: What genre do you write
for?
N: I am
currently writing a young adult supernatural series. Book 3 – Revenge – is set to be released at
the end of August. It will be the final
installment of the Blood Angel Series. However, I do have a few other stories in the
works. I have a children’s series that I
have been working on outlining lately as well as a drama – not YA.
H & A: Tell us what about your
books are about?
N:
Awaken is set in a world very much like our own, yet Atlanta, Michigan
isn’t just an ordinary city and Alee Moyer isn’t just an ordinary girl. Having barely survived her childhood it will
take the death of her father for the truth of her true bloodline to come out. Even if it means losing her life, or at least
her identity she won’t be able to escape her true destiny as the first
surviving Dhampir in history. Surrounded by a new world where the horror
films she grew up watching have become reality and the most unlikely characters
have become her lifeline, Alee will struggle to find herself and her purpose.
In
Beginnings,
having lost her family, Alee is thrown into a new life and a new world. Camouflaged by the mundane happenings of a
high school existence, she would never have guessed what was happening below the
surface in, "The Underground". If she thought hunting in the wild and
drinking blood was bad, what will she think when she becomes the hunted? Newly armed with the knowledge of being half
witch and half vampire Alee, the only surviving Dhampir in history, is forced to learn to control a lifetime of
magic and vampire powers if she wants to survive.
Having died in her father’s arms
only to awaken in a pool of blood surrounded by the corpses of the mutilated,
her true love among them, who could blame her for what she did next? Wouldn’t you seek REVENGE? Alee does, in the final installment of the
Blood Angel Series, Revenge!
H & A: Will you have more
upcoming books for this series?
N: No, Revenge
is the final installment of the series. Although
I am sad to see the series end, I am also really excited about the other
stories I am currently working on.
H & A: Describe how your main
characters makes you feel. Do you think
you can connect with them in real life?
N: I love my
main characters!
Alee, the only surviving dhampir in
history, is very dear to my heart and I have written her with a lot of my own
insecurities and strengths.
Damian, the mysterious lycanthrope
and twin brother to Victoria, is Alee’s quiet yet passionate friend who readers
find themselves loving, hating, and loving to hate.
Kyle, Damian’s best friend turned
enemy, is the cool, relaxed, confident boy next door that Alee ultimately falls
head over heels for.
H & A: How did you come up with these book titles? What about your book covers?
N: My book
titles (Awaken, Beginnings, and Revenge)
all came to me through the writing process. I honestly can’t remember the original working
title I was using when I started Awaken.
The book covers were a joint effort
between my creative artist, Julie Csizmadia and me. I selected a number of photos that I really
liked, and she started designing the covers. She actually created all three of the covers
at the same time, just leaving enough room for the titles once I had them.
H & A: Have you ever thought your books could become a movie? Who would star for in the roles?
N: I would
love for my books to be turned into movies, and if JJ Abrams could direct, that
would make my life complete. I’m not
really sure who I would want to act in the roles, a younger version of me for
Alee maybe… I’d actually be happy to
play Loraline, Alee’s birth mother and member of the Wenham Clan.
Thank for the opportunity to interview you for our blog. We are honored to help you release your third book. Two more questions to end this session.
H & A: Would we expect to see more books aside from your “Blood Angel” series?
N: Yes, after
I release Revenge, the final installment of the Blood Angel Series, I
plan to start on my next few projects.
H & A: What do you have in store for your fans?
N: I have a
couple projects on my plate at the moment, and I’m not really sure which one I
will finish first, but I am very excited about an upcoming children’s series
that I am currently working on. My kids
are at that age where they are really getting excited about reading. My Blood Angel Series is still a little too
old for them, so I’m writing a series that they can enjoy.
H & A: We would be honored to help you release more of your books. Please count on us for any further future books to come. Thank you for your time and patience.
N: Thank you so much. I really appreciate you having me as a guest,
and I look forward to sharing my future books with you as well. Have a wonderful month and please check out Revenge
when it comes out later this month.

Nina’s Author Bio
Nina has always been creative, be it
art, theatre, film – anything but singing...she stresses that that is something
you don't want to hear! She earned her bachelor’s degree in
Communication and Theatre Arts with a minor in Military Science from Eastern
Michigan University where she spent most of her time on either the stage,
rappelling down buildings, or working one of three jobs. After college, she moved to Los Angeles like
so many other starry eyed actors in pursuit of fame and fortune in tinsel-town.
While there, she worked to pay the bills
but her love was always acting. She was
able to achieve some level of success, mostly in commercials and independent
films, but she considers those experiences as some of the best in her life.
After some
major life changes, she self-published her first book entitled PRIVATE WORDS UNSPOKEN, a compilation
of poetry. Since then, her literary
interest have grown, and she would like to think her storytelling abilities has
improved. She has done everything from
office administration to business development to being the Director of a
private preschool. She has jumped out of
a C130 aircraft, fired a M16 machine gun, and given birth – TWICE! But she always returns to her art.
Though she’ll forever
be a Michigan girl at heart, she now lives in the South where she is married
with her two wonderful children. When
she isn’t working on her latest story, you can find her lounging with a good
book, playing with her kids, or indulging in her unhealthy addiction to
Starbucks coffee.
